ALEXANDRE ANTOINE MAROLLES (1705?–1753?)

Interesting view of the town of Tornio, signed lower center: Vue de la ville / Torno / Marolles. Tornio is a town in northwestern Finland, located at the bottom of the Gulf of Bothnia, at the mouth of the Tornionjoki , in Lapland. The 18th century marked its golden age, with the visit of many scientific expeditions en route to the polar regions, the most notable being that of pierre louis moreau de maupertuis in 1736-1737. our miniature is linked to this period of scientific discoveries.

Portrait of Julien-Alexandre Marcotte de Forceville (1768-1837).
One of the most beautiful miniatures from the production of Antoine-Paul Vincent (born in Paris, active between 1798 and 1817), signed lower left. This painting is quoted, edited and praised by Leo Schidlof in various publications.

SOFIA GIORDANO CLERC (TURIN 1778 - TURIN 1829)

Rare portrait of a young woman covering her breasts with a richly embroidered white cashmere shawl. The miniature is signed and dated on the left: “Fecit 1815 Sophia Giordano”. Sofia Giordano, a very talented portraitist, was born in Turin around 1779 and died there on May 14th 1829. 
Very few of her works are cataloged.
