Interesting miniature brilliantly executed by De Bréa, signed and dated on the right: Bréa 1796.

Bréa was a painter in oil, pastel, miniature, enamel, had mastered various printing techniques and also traded in works of art.

He probably received his first artistic apprenticeship in his family and in 1771 he joined the Académie de Saint-Luc in Paris. He was a great friend of Hall, so much so that the latter portrayed Bréa in his first attempt at painting on enamel and they influenced each other.

This work is mentioned and published (fig. 5 p.174) in: N.
